Does HalalScript tell me if my medication is halal?
No. We report the source a manufacturer states for a specific product — for example, that a capsule's gelatin is bovine. Whether a medicine is permissible for you is a question for a qualified scholar. We give you the facts to bring to that conversation.
Why does the manufacturer matter?
The same generic drug made by two companies can use different ingredients. One capsule shell may be plant-based and another animal-based, with identical labels. The answer belongs to the exact product, which is why the manufacturer on your bottle matters.
Can I see every manufacturer's source for a drug?
No. We answer for the product you have, or the specific product you ask about. We do not publish a complete list of manufacturers and their sources on this site.
What if no suitable version exists?
Sometimes none does. Sometimes the alternative is a different form of the same medicine, such as a tablet instead of a capsule, which often contains no gelatin. We report what each manufacturer states. We cannot promise a suitable version exists, or that your pharmacy can obtain one. For a medicine you need, scholars have addressed necessity. That conversation belongs with your scholar and your prescriber.
Should I stop taking a medication I'm worried about?
Never on your own. Stopping a needed medicine can be dangerous. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist first. We provide information about ingredients; the decisions about your treatment belong with them.
How do you know the source?
We write to the manufacturer's medical-information department and keep their written reply on file, with its date. Content is reviewed by a licensed pharmacist before it is reported to you.
What if you don't have my medication yet?
Ask, and we will write to the manufacturer. Replies usually take two to six weeks. Leave an email if you want one note when it is ready.
